Notes for Families

  • Thank you to the families who brought in snack already!
  • Raise a Glass Fundraiser –  The annual Raise a Glass fundraiser is January 30th.  You can buy tickets at the link below:
  • Field Trip slips for the Alvin Ailey Dance Troop March 6th performance at the Auditorium Theater were sent home last week.  Please return form and $20. Email me if you have questions. 
  • Snack – Students with the last name starting with M-Z, please bring in snack for the month of January.  Please bring enough for 21 students.  We have nut allergies in the class so please bring a snack without nuts/peanuts.

What is happening in class….

Math- We will continue Unit 5 this week, focusing on making arrays, matching clock faces to digital notation, mentally adding and subtracting 10 and 100, using open number lines to solve word problems, and solving change-to-more number stories.  Please keep practicing telling time at home and adding/subtracting money values at home.  

Reading –  We continue to put all of our nonfiction strategies to use when determining the main idea of a paragraph or topic. We will also focus this week on comparing and contrasting two nonfiction texts, specifically identifying text features. 

Writing – Students will complete second drafts of their informational writing and begin final drafts to publish! 

 Social Studies –  We will wrap up our Native American Unit and be prepared to start our African American history unit. 

Science –  We will wrap up our Earth Movements unit by making a volcano and being assessed at the end of the week.
